The PALS Programme

Here is a PALS explanation of the programme.

" Over the past three years Mrs Fillingham has been working together with children from years 4, 5 and 6 to develop a scheme called P.A.L.S.

P.A.L.S is a peer support programme and is part of the standards we have to meet for our healthy schools status. It aims to provide happier and more enjoyable playtimes and lunchtimes by helping to solve problems and providing a wide range of different games and activities for any child or group of children to play with.

P.A.L.S stands for Problems Aired Listening Service.

Each day there are 4 P.A.L.S on duty with 2 that are there to sort out problems and another 2 to play games.  The next week they will change which job they do so they don't end up doing the same job each week.

Each and every P.A.L is only ever on duty 1 day a week, unless they offer to cover for somebody else who is absent on their P.A.L.S day. P.A.L.S operates in both the infants and juniors.

Over in Key stage 1 the P.A.L.S go over in pairs and walk around the playground until they are approached by either a pupil that has a problem or would just like you to play with them.

When trying to solve problems each and every single P.A.L follows a few simple rules.  At the start they will read out the PALS promise then show them the rules and check they agree to them.  While they are trying to solve the problem they will follow the 6 steps to solve problems so the routine should always be the same.

If the problem is too difficult to solve or is quiet serious at the end of each playtime or lunchtime the P.A.L.S on duty will notify Mrs Fillingham.

Each day the 2 P.A.L.S on games will select a few games from a wide variety to play with. The games are selected by the P.A.L on duty, and they give an opportunity for all children in key stage 2 to play together."

This term there is going to be a new round of applications, interviews and subsequent training open to the current Year's 4 and 5. This will mean that the new PALS will be up and running for September. This will also include PALS that will go over to the KS1 playground at afternoon brain break for their playtime.
