Responsibility Areas
To help children gain experience in helping others, we have identified 5 "Responsibility Areas" where pupils can help in the smooth running of the school on a daily basis.
Dinner monitors
Working on a weekly rota, year 6 children help out the dinner ladies by taking groups of infants back over to the infant building when they have finished their lunch.
Librarians
We have 3 library areas in school and use the children to help keep them tidy and put books back in the correct places. Children work on a rota either doing a day each or working for a half term on the library. We use children of different age groups and a range of abilities. We have hats with Librarian written on them to identify them to other members of staff.
Playground Leaders
This is a new scheme which extends from the PALS idea about organised games. The idea is that a number of Year 6 children are given the responsibility to organise games during lunch\playtime in KS1. The children chosen are trained using the Phys Kids scheme of activity cards, and then they use this knowledge to organise games for the younger children.
Office Helpers
At lunchtime, 2 children from year 5 & 6 do various jobs around the office to allow the office staff to have a lunch break. The 2 main jobs required to be done during lunch are allowing visitors to enter the school and answering the phone when it rings. When the phone rings they must follow a few simple sentences. In addition to their jobs they also take letters to classes and help out with various small jobs, for example stamping library books. They have a blue hat with the words "Office Helper" on the front.
Ambassadors
Ambassadors wear a blue hat and sit in the entrance hall during lunch times. Their role is to open the front door and greet visitors as they arrive. They then make sure the person is directed to the appropriate member of staff.
