The Head's Statement for prospective parents
" We are here to feel secure, to be valued and to learn."
I have been the proud Head of Barrow Hall Primary School since the amalgamation between Lingley Infant School and Barrow Hall Lane Junior School in September 1993. At that time, the school was maintained by Cheshire LEA, but as a result of local government reorganisation it became part of Warrington Borough Council in 1998.
We believe our school is a happy, caring school where the children enjoy, and benefit from the experiences provided for their learning. Although the Government has decided to call all schools such as ours community schools, we regard this school as a community in itself. We all work together. The school badge is a symbol of our identity.
Our school is a friendly, happy, place, We believe in high academic standards but also look for the widest possible curriculum opportunities to find and then celebrate things our pupils are good at.Our pupils now have a life skills "passport" which they carry through school to record achievements which might be undervalued elsewhere.
These may include a sporting skill (e.g.soccer), a character quality(e.g. bravery which would come out in our Outdoor Pursuits programme) or whatever. Ability in the 3Rs is vital and pupils at Barrow Hall are encouraged to prize good manners, self esteem, team work and co-operation as equally important social skills
Since amalgamation the school has worked towards its goals by aiming to cater for, and bring the best out of, the people who work here pupils and adults. This principle is at the heart of Investors in People although we were not conscious or aware of this back in 1993.
We are pleased to record that in November 1998 we achieved Investors in People status because our school is not only committed to our pupils but to the training and development of all employees so they fulfil their true potential. In April 2000 and in January 2002 and January 2005 and in 2008 we were re-inspected and have successfully maintained and built on the status.
I am as proud of our school now as I was when I became Head 17 years ago.
