Behaviour Policy
Playtimes and Lunch times
Our Code of Conduct and rules apply particularly at lunchtime. Dinner ladies are very much part of our staff and work as hard as anyone to earn the children's' respect. Rewards and sanctions apply at breaks just as they do in the rest of the day. Groups and individuals who behave particularly well will
be rewarded in Star Pupil Assembly each week.
Misbehaviour can result in:
1. A warning
2. Being sent inside to work
3. Being sent to the Headteacher
4 A letter home
5. Exclusion at Lunchtime (With parents co-operation).
Contracts
Not all pupils learn the same curriculum because they do not all have the same ability. Equally not all pupils have the same capacity for good behaviour. We vary our general expectations accordingly. Some pupils may have short term/long term behaviour problems and in consultation with parents, we may agree achievable targets (Contracts) for individuals to aim at. All children however will be expected to conform to the overall standards of behaviour in Barrow Hall.
Working Together
For most children our rewards and consequences will be enough to encourage them to keep our rules and uphold our Code of Conduct. Some pupils may need more help and this is where we especially need your support.
We value you most highly - we NEED your help - to achieve the best standards of work and behaviour in our school. Occasionally staff may appear, to an outsider, to 'pick' on individuals. More than likely their professional view is that it is the right moment to highlight a problem.

BEHAVIOUR POLICY
Introduction
This booklet tells you about the kinds of things we do at Barrow Hall to encourage our children to behave well and work hard. It also explains what happens to children who choose to misbehave. We hope you find the booklet useful and that you will support us in ensuring that our school is a safe and happy place to teach and learn.
Aims
We believe that:
* our school should be a place where children and staff feel safe and are
happy and healthy.
* our school should be a place where children can learn and teachers can teach without disturbance.
* children learn better with a smile on their face - positive attitudes
should be rewarded and encouraged.
* children and the whole school community should know, understand
and accept our Code of Conduct and class rules - parental involve-
ment and support is very important here
* everyone in school should be sensitive to other people's points of view
* everyone in our school is important and valued - we should be proud of
ourselves!
To help us achieve these aims we have Infant and Junior codes of Conduct. Each child has a copy in school and one at home. We ask parents to keep their Code safe and talk through it with their children from time to time.
NEXT REVIEW SEPTEMBER 2010
At the heart of our policy is the need to teach pupils? self discipline and develop their positive self - esteem.
We believe that pupils choose whether or not they behave well. Poor behaviour is often a result of poor self ? esteem.
|
Our aim is to "Catch? children behaving themselves and reward them positively.
|
If they behave well we offer a scale of reward. If they choose to mis-behave we have a scale of consequences.
|
In the Classroom
Each class will have displayed in their room a set of rules that they have chosen to keep. Rewards and consequences are also decided by pupil and teacher together and published in the classroom for all to see.
A typical layout appears below:

Our aim is to offer some consistency and give our pupils a sense of understanding of how well they have done or how serious their misbehaviour is. The above list is merely a set of examples and will naturally vary a little from class to class and age range to age range.
To value good work and behaviour we offer other positive rewards such as:
Star Pupil Certificates
Personal stickers
House points
Lunchtime wet play choice
Golden Tickets
All pupils at KS1 and 2 will be rewarded with Golden Time each week. At the Foundation Stage children receive choose time and sanctions operate around a visual stimulus of clouds and sun.
Conversely, if misbehaviour is serious enough and is disturbing others who wish to work, we can exclude pupils either temporarily or permanently. Before such action was taken both Parents and
Governors would be both consulted and involved in the decision making process.
