PHSCE

Personal, Health, Social and Citizenship Education.

PHSCE is vast and varied and impinges on all they do in school. It is not just their school life it relates to but it will have an affect on the rest of their lives too.
It gives them the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens.

Citizenship develops social and moral responsibility, their understanding of communities and their involvement in them. It also seeks to develop their awareness of politics and political systems.

There are four main inter-related sections to the PHSCE curriculum.

1. developing confidence and responsibility and making the most of their abilities
2. preparing to play an active role as citizens
3. developing a healthy, safer lifestyle
4. developing good relationships and respecting the differences between people

Pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum. We hope that in doing so they will learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.

Children will encounter PHSCE through a variety of provision including; discrete curriculum time, circle times, morning meetings, theme days/weeks, other subject areas, school activities and events and through the school ethos, culture and values.
