This year we have given each year group a curricular target for mathematics. The target is focused on problem solving. Below is a table of the objectives your child will be covering in problem solving this year.

To solve simple problems in the role play areas or in practical situations.

To solve one step word problems.

Year 2
|
To be able to say whether the problem is an addition or subtraction problem and explain how they are going to solve it.

Year 3
|
To solve real life one step problems using addition and subtraction. To solve real life one step problems using all four operations.

|
Year 4
|
To solve real life two step problems using all four operations.
|
|
|
|
|
Year 5
|
To solve real life two step problems using all four operations. To solve real life two step problems using all four operations including a combination of operations.

Year 6
|
To solve real life two step problems using all four operations including a combination of operations. To choose and justify the use of an appropriate and efficient
method for solving problems.
