Music
At Barrow Hall, Music is taught on a weekly basis at both Key Stages. During Key Stage 1, a music specialist delivers the curriculum. Foundation stage and Key Stage 2 teaching involves work by a music specialist and individual class teachers.
Music is a lesson, which engages children in making and responding to music. It develops their understanding and appreciation of a range of different kinds of music.
Throughout the curriculum at Barrow Hall the children will acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to make music. The musical elements of pitch, duration, timbre, texture, dynamics and structure will be progressively introduced, discussed and understood. Children will devise and recognise appropriate signs to aid composition and arrangements.
They will also develop skills and attitudes that can support learning in other subject areas and that are needed for life and work e.g. listening skills, the ability to concentrate, creativity, perseverance, self-confidence and sensitivity towards others. By the end of the year children will develop skills of listening and appraising, performing, composing and appraising.
At Key Stage 2 children are given the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Flute, Clarinet and Guitar lessons are taught on a weekly rota and these prove to be very popular.
If you have any questions about the teaching of music, or if you want your child to learn a musical instrument, please contact your class teacher or myself.
