Summer Term 2010

Welcome back to your last term at Barrow Hall! I hope you all had a great Easter holiday and are ready for another very busy term. Here's what the summer term holds in store;

TOPIC

For the first half of the term, our focus will be SATs preparation, so topic work will be limited although we will be finishing off our work on the WW2 museum. After half term, we will be concentrating on our end of year production. We will be auditionning before we break up for half term, so have a think about whether you would like to be considered for a part.

HOME LEARNING

Weekly revision homework in Maths and Literacy will continue until SATs are over.  Keep looking out for some useful revision resources on the VLE.

Spellings will continue to be given out on a Tuesday for a test the following Tuesday. Remember that I expect you to get yourself a grid to help practise spellings and write your sentences on the back.

Times tables will be tested regularly, so you need to practice, practice, practice!

Last but not least, reading. I have been very pleased with the commitment that most of you have shown to reading over the last term. It is very important that you keep this up.  You should aim to read regularly; at least 3 times a week, ideally every day. Please make sure your reading records are kept up to date and show how often you have read (you can do this yourself). Reading records will be collected each Monday morning. Please make sure you have reading book with you in school EVERY day.

VLE

Each Sunday I update our class homepage with details of what is happening during the next week, so make sure you check it regularly. I also update the STAR PUPIL and STAR WRITER every week - so make sure you show Mum and Dad! There are also lots of useful resources in the Year 6 area.

PE

Please make sure you bring your PE kit into school on Monday and take it home on a Friday. It is likely that we will have our PE lesson on a Thursday, but things can change so you should make sure your PE kit is in school every day. If you use your PE kit for an after school club, make sure you bring it back into school the next day. If you are unable to take part in a PE lesson, you should bring a note of explanation from home.

UMPCs

Please remember to make sure that your UMPC is fully charged each day and that you carry it to and from school safely and responsibly. Also, remember to keep to the contract that you signed at the beginning of the year.

Parents, I hope you find this information useful. I am enormously proud of the achievements of the children in 1D so far this year. They have worked so hard and deserve to be successful. They have also done a lot of growing up over the last two terms and are showing that they are mature enough to take responsibility for their own learning. However, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to call into school and have a chat.

Many thanks for your valued support.

Mrs. C. Birkett
