Welcome back to the Summer Term 2010!

I hope you all had a relaxing Easter and didn't eat too many eggs! The purpose of this 'letter' is to inform you about the coming term, and to give you some useful information that will help ensure a smooth time ahead.

Topic

This term our theme is Dragons' Den!  We will be focusing on two topics within the main theme: Design Technology and Art.  Unfortunately Sats preparation will continue to dominate for most of the first half of the Summer Term and further details relating to the new topic will be given to towards the end of the first half of term.

SATs

During May all Year 6 children will be taking their Standard Attainment Tests (SATs).  The children will take tests in two subjects: Maths and Literacy.  Though the prospect of SATs may be daunting for the children, they will be well prepared.  In the time between now and the tests, we will continue practising and extra support will be given where appropriate.  Though we expect children to work to the best of their ability, no-one need worry.  The children will be taking their final set of practice SATs during the first week of this half term.

Homework

Homework will continue to be linked to Sats booster classes and further homework may be given out where appropriate  Spellings will be given out each week as normal.  Children will occasionally do times table tests and will be given a book to help with this, where necessary.

P.E.

P.E. will take place on a weekly basis and although the class is allocated a specific slot, changes do occur.  For this reason, children should bring full correct indoor and outdoor kit (labelled) into school on Monday and leave in school until Friday when they can take it home if necessary.  P.E. is part of the National Curriculum and children should take part.  However, if a child is unable to take part, then they must bring in a signed letter from home.

Parent helpers are always welcome.   If you would like to assist our class on a regular basis (helping putting up displays, assisting in art lessons etc.) please let me know.

If at anytime you have any questions or problems please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Mr. L Shaw
