Welcome to B4 - Miss Roach's class

   Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing Christmas break and are now ready to get back to work.

Thank you again for all the lovley cards and presents.

We are really excited about the new topics for this term. For the first half term we will be exploring the world of 'Dinosaurs.' We are planning an exciting role play and a mystery egg has been found in the playground...I wonder what will hatch?

In the second half term our topic will be 'Water.' In which we will have lots of fun answering questions such as; What happens if you heat water? If you freeze it? What lives in water?

Here is an outline of the specific subject coverage for this term.

Here's some general information for you.

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!

Reading books and home/school reading records should be in school every day. Please try to read with your child at home on a frequent basis. Ten minutes a day makes such a difference! Please note in the home/school record when your child has read, the page number reached and any comment you wish to make. Reading books that have been completed will usually be changed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and these are the days that they will be brought home.
On Wednesdays, each child will visit the school library and choose a book to enjoy at home and this should be returned by the following Wednesday.

Literacy Homework

The Year 2 children, only, will be bringing home a piece of Literacy homework on Monday. This is designed to give the children additional handwriting practice or to develop their comprehension skills further. This should be returned the following Monday.

SPELLINGS

Spellings will be sent home each Monday for your child to try to learn by Friday, when the spelling book should be returned to school. These will focus on the particular sound we are concentrating on that week and also on high frequency words that are often needed when writing independently.

Please try to help your child to look at these words, pointing out any particular patterns that will help them to remember them.

MATHS HOMEWORK

Each Friday, a short task will be sent home. In line with our new Maths Scheme the task will be related to the topic we will be covering during the next week so please work with your child and try to make it fun! Please sign the maths homework book when your child has had a go at the task and return it by the following Tuesday. Maths Bags will be sent out on a fortnightly basis starting this term.

P.E. KITS

Please make sure that your child brings their P.E. kit to school each Monday and leaves it in the cloakroom until at leastThursday. They should have shorts, a T-shirt and pumps (that fit!). If the girls wear tights in colder weather, a pair of socks is also very useful.

WATER BOTTLES

We try to encourage the children to help themselves to regular drinks of water as this improves their concentration and generally helps to keep them feeling on top of things through the day. Please try to ensure that your child brings a named bottle containing water every day.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Just ask and I'll do my best to help!
