Here's some general information for you.
BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!
Reading books and home/school reading records should be in school every day. Please try to read with your child at home on a frequent basis. Ten minutes a day makes such a difference! Please note in the home/school record when your child has read, the page number reached and any comment you wish to make. Reading books that have been completed will usually be changed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and these are the days that they will be brought home.
On Wednesdays, each child will visit the school library and choose a book to enjoy at home and this should be returned by the following Wednesday.
SPELLINGS
A few spellings will be sent home each Friday for your child to try to learn by the following Friday. The spelling book should be returned to school please on Monday. We will focus on the particular sound we are concentrating on that week and also on high frequency words or topic words that are often needed when writing independently.
Please try to help your child to look at these words, pointing out any particular patterns that will help them to remember them. Many children find learning spellings very challenging so this should be a low key and fun few minutes.
MATHS AND LITERACY HOMEWORK
Each Monday, a short task will be sent home. Maths and literacy will be alternated week by week. The maths will be based on topics covered in class during the week and will sometimes be an idea for a game or perhaps a puzzle of some sort. Please sign the maths homework book when your child has had a go at the task and return it by the following Monday. For literacy, there will usually be a small comprehension task sent home to be completed during the week and returned to school on Monday please.
P.E. KITS
Please make sure that your child brings their P.E. kit to school each Monday and leaves it in the cloakroom until Friday. They should have shorts, a T-shirt and pumps (that fit!). If the girls wear tights in colder weather, a pair of socks is also very useful.
WATER BOTTLES
We try to encourage the children to help themselves to regular drinks of water as this improves their concentration and generally helps to keep them feeling on top of things throughout the day. Please try to ensure that your child brings a named bottle containing water every day.
PARENTS
If any parents would be willing to come in and help, either on a regular basis or as a one off, or if you feel you could contribute to any of our topic work in any way, then please come in or contact me. Everybody is always welcome!
Also, if there are ever any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to get in touch, either by popping in or telephoning. The support you give is essential for your child's progress and the closer we can work together the better it will be for them.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Just ask and I'll do my best to help!
Thank you for your continued support, I look forward to working with you and the children.
Best wishes,
Mrs Hawkins
