The Early Years Foundation Stage at Barrow Hall C.P School
Barrow Hall C.P School currently has three Reception classes
We have a large area in School which we have separated into 3 Bases (The Busy Base, The Story Base and The Number Base).
Children visit each Base once a day with their class.
We have our own Foundation Stage Playground which we use to provide outdoor play in a secure environment.
We are fortunate to have a fully qualified NNEB Nursery Nurse and 3 Teaching Assistants to work alongside the teaching staff in the Foundation Stage.
We offer a number of Pre-School sessions per child once they have been allocated a place here by the LEA.
Once they have started school we can offer your child:
LETTERS AND SOUNDS - this is a synthetic Phonics scheme through which we teach the children to hear each sound and link it to its name and letter shape. The children will take part in daily phonics sessions which we make multi-sensory and exciting.
FIRST JOBS- We like parents to accompany their children into school to complete their first job of the day. This time is very special to your child and it also gives you an opportunity to mention to staff any concerns you have before they become a problem.
PE - All Foundation stage children take part in PE sessions and after Christmas, Gym sessions with a qualified specialist are included in our curriculum.
READING BOOKS AND HOME READERS- Reading books will start coming home once the main scheme (Oxford Reading Tree) is introduced in school. Once the children start to bring home a reading book we would like you to keep us informed about how they are progressing by commenting in their Reading Records or Early Years Planners.
We also offer "Home readers" which are just ordinary children's books which we ask you to read/share with your child so that they experience a range of books.
FOUNDATION STAGE PROFILES- are used by staff to assess your child's progress in line with government expectations. The profiles are completed throughout the year and then form part of your child's report.
ENRICHMENT DAYS AND CURRICULUMN WEEKS- Enrichment days give us the opportunity to inform your child about another culture or curriculum area and make your child's time at Barrow Hall really memorable.
FRESH FRUIT AND VEG- we offer daily fresh fruit and veg to all infant children to promote a healthier lifestyle.
MILK- we offer daily free milk for all Foundation Stage pupils. Once children move out of the Foundation Stage a small charge is made for this service.
What you need to do if you would like a place here
Come and have a look around our School during our "Open Week" which is scheduled for the week of 12th October 2009(see above times).
If you have had a look around Barrow Hall C.P School and would like your child to be considered for a place with us, call into the school office to complete an application form which we will then send to the Local Education Authority for you. The application form must be handed in to the school by early November 2009
What will happen next?
A letter will be posted to you notifying you of the place allocated to your child. You should receive this letter in March 2010.
WELCOME PLAY HOUR- Once the Local Education Authority have given us our pupil intake for next academic year you will receive a letter inviting you to a Welcome Play Hour around March which will be an opportunity for you to have a look around the whole School. You will also be given more information about when your child starts school.
PRE-SCHOOL SESSIONS- We offer each child a number of half day Pre-school sessions starting around May. These sessions are an opportunity for your child to be introduced to school and their future friends and teachers. The sessions are run by members of our Early Years Foundation Stage team and are an exciting introduction to school for our new pupils. Each topic based session is centred on a different area of an Early Years curriculum including Science, food technology, creative development, speech and language development.
We look forward to meeting you and your child soon.
